I am not a huge fan of architectural photography as a genre, but it happen so that I live in one of the most beautiful cities in the world, St. Petersburg, which has preserved its historical center well, and looking at this beauty through the viewfinder mirror, trying to capture it on "digital film" is a great pleasure. That is why from time to time I photograph buildings and their decorative elements, preserved from the past, or their rusty picturesque ruins, -- it is impossible for me to pass by such beauty.
Я не огромный фанат именно архитектурной фотографии как жанра, но я живу в одном из красивейших городов мира, Санкт-Петербурге, - который сохранил свою компактную историческую застройку, и разглядывать эту красоту через зеркало видоискателя, пытаться запечатлеть ее на цифровую пленку - большое удовольствие. Вот почему время от времени я фотографирую здания и элементы декора, просто невозможно пройти мимо такой красоты.
So, my post goes for Deranged Photography Contest -- the week's topic was 'Buildings'. According to the contest rules, I declare my level: PRO.
I selected 10 photos to present today -- most of them are from 2022 walks across the city.
"Yards-wells" are a famous iconic "feature" of my city.
An interesting monument depicting on a scale of 1:33 the most famous iconic buildings of St. Petersburg. On this autumn day it looked especially nice.
A wonderful building, built in the old Italian style, with manor apartments overlooking the Neva embankment. How I would like to be born, live and die in one of the apartments of that house.
The modern Babel Tower (well, a bit).
Until 1917, it was a palace .... and then different people owned the building, from functionaries of the Bolshevik party to pioneers.
A luxurious building in the style of the 19th century, built for the imperial head office of navigation and oceanography; I don't know who owns the building now and what interesting things are hidden in its walls. Most of the old buildings that look so impressive from the outside, alas, are completely inaccessible to inspection inside. Judging by the luxurious elements of the exterior decor, there is something worthy of attention hiding inside (of course, if the details of the interior could survive over the past hundred years).
And the last one -- but not the least.
One of my favorite buildings in the city (yes, of course I have my favourites!), I don't know why, maybe I have some kind of imprinting... or is it the perfect example of Art Nouveau? One way or another, I always freeze like a rabbit in front of a boa, passing by.
