I am not really sure if you part of the bot problem or not; they say, "nature hates empty spaces" -- if it was not you, it would became another bot-coder on your place... surely there might be other, bigger parts of problem than you!

the last but not the least: when I entered steemit, I had a strong feeling nobody's intrested in my content and the bots only talking to me.. I dont think so anymore. and it is not that #newsteemit changed anything, but I think its about engagement and the communication circles, that you integrate yourself with. smth like that.
