Much research has been done to stop the madness of opioid effect on infants, but the numbers continue to rise. It takes months for a baby to overcome his addiction. It called Neonatal Abstinence Syndrome NAS. Some infants' symptoms are so severe they need a methadone withdrawal process. The long care an addicted baby needs is overwhelming, but in many cases the infant dies.

Reuters tallied more than 27,000 diagnosed cases of drug-dependent newborns in 2013, On average, one baby was born dependent on opioids every 19 minutes.

Preliminary findings of an Indiana State Department of Health study highlight a link between the state’s high infant mortality rate and the drug epidemic. source

Some studies show almost 1/3 of infant victims of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is contributed to opioid abuse of the mother.

Prescription drug companies are rushing to find a drug to reduce the symptoms of NAS.

That should give everyone pause to consider how we got here... a drug to prevent painful addiction withdrawal symptoms in infants. Chemicals put us in this situation--are they now the answer?
