Here are some photos from a graffiti event i went to this weekend at a local Cleveland tattoo/barber shop.
they had live djs, vendors and artists doing graffiti as well as displaying painted skateboards- which i'll save for the next post, since i got so many pics.
i found out that graffiti artists do not like being photographed while creating their art!...i guess damage over $500 dollars is a felony, so even though this is a legitimate, sanctioned event- you don't want to leave evidence that could be used against you!...
i happily deleted the photo with the artist who did not want to be photographed, and am not posting any other painters in the act, out of respect- some i did not even talk to.
it was sad to see them just painting over the old pieces - but i guess it can be a very temporary medium to work with!
it's very interesting to see the outlines come to life!
I've never done graffiti or anything, but i always appreciate it's history, technique and mystique. ..
but it was great to see this done live, since I've never really had the chance to check it out before... especially on such a large scale.
all this at the Red Lion in Cleveland! Check them out if you are ever in town, had a great time. tomorrow i'll post the pics from the inside with all the custom skateboard decks, they were pretty wild.
