About my collage
In my language area, accusing someone of having a “bird” (einen Vogel haben) and pointing your index finger symbolically at your own head (showing the bird, germ. den Vogel zeigen) can be taken as an insult. Because it means that the other person is a bit weird, possibly gone mad. Sometimes, however, it just means that you think the other person's idea is too bold.
Also fitting: "You seem to have a chirping problem!" (bei dir Piept es wohl) or "You really have a tit!"(the bird. germ. Du hast eine Meise).
For me, such statements were always a predicate. Because I think that you don't always have to do everything exactly the way others do it, just because others have always done it that way. And people have often "shown me the bird" (Vogel gezeigt) for that.
As I am quite often successful with my alternative approaches, I am always very pleased with this gesture. That's when I know that my counterpart would never have come up with my new idea.
For example, there was major renovation work on the fireplace in my house. A large section of the plaster on the wall was destroyed, which I then had to repair.
My father-in-law insisted that it could only be plastered in the traditional way. In other words, applying a reinforcement mesh and filling with gypsum plaster.
I wouldn't have enjoyed doing it that way - too boring. I've plastered walls this way far too often and I absolutely had to do it differently this time.
He didn't like my idea of doing it with construction foam and of course showed me the bird.
So I plastered the wall with construction foam. It was done in no time at all for about 1.5m² and I even developed a technique for doing it without getting the trowel glued. I then sanded the wall smooth and washed it down with plaster. This only took a fraction of the time that the traditional method would have taken me.
You really couldn't see any difference and even my father-in-law was amazed.
Of course, it wasn't a masterful method. But I'm still glad that I did it this way. Otherwise I would have done it as usual and learned nothing.
The birds in my head are really welcome there.

Über meine Collage
Wenn man in meinem Sprachraum jemandem unterstellt, er habe einen "Vogel" und dabei mit dem Zeigefinger symbolisch auf den eigenen Kopf deutet, könnte dies als Beleidigung aufgefasst werden. Denn es bedeutet, dass der andere etwas spinnt, möglicherweise verrückt geworden ist. Manchmal bedeutet es aber nur, dass man eine Idee des anderen zu gewagt findet.
Dazu passend auch: "Bei dir piept es wohl?!" oder "Du hast echt eine Meise!".
Für mich waren derartige Aussagen immer ein Prädikat. Denn ich finde, dass man nicht alles immer genau so machen muss wie andere es tun, weil andere das nun mal schon immer so so tun. Und dafür wurde mir schon des öfteren der "Vogel gezeigt".
Da ich recht häufig erfolgreich, mit meinen alternativen Ansätzen bin, freut mich diese Geste immer sehr. Denn dann weiß ich, dass mein Gegenüber niemals auf meine neue Idee gekommen wäre.
Beispielsweise, gab es bei mir zu Hause größere Bauarbeiten am Kamin. Dabei wurde mir an der Wand ein großes Stück Putz zerstört, welchen ich danach reparieren musste.
Mein Schwiegervater bestand darauf, dass man das nur ganz klassisch verputzen könne. Also, Armierungsgewebe anbringen und mit Gipsputz verspachteln.
Mir hätte es auf diese Weise gar keinen Spaß gemacht - Zu langweilig. Schon viel zu oft, habe ich Wände auf diese Art verputzt und ich musste das dieses Mal unbedingt anders machen.
Von meiner Idee, es mit Bauschaum zu machen, hielt er nichts und zeigte mir natürlich den Vogel.
Also verputzte ich die Wand mit Bauschaum. Das war, bei etwa 1,5m², im Handumdrehen erledigt und ich entwickelte während dessen sogar eine Technik, das zu tun, ohne dass die Kelle dabei verklebt. Anschließend habe ich die Wand glatt geschliffen und mit Gips abgeschwemmt. Das brauchte nur einen Bruchteil der Zeit, welche die klassische Methode mich gekostet hätte.
Man konnte wirklich keinen Unterschied sehen und selbst mein Schwiegervater staunte nicht schlecht.
Klar, das war natürlich keine meisterliche Methode. Dennoch bin ich froh, dass ich es so gemacht habe. Denn sonst hätte ich es wie gewohnt gemacht und nichts dabei gelernt.
Die Vögel in meinem Kopf, sind dort wirklich herzlich willkommen.

For the work on the collage I only used the open source image editor GIMP.

Dies sind die Materialien die ich zum Erstellen meiner Collage verwendet habe. Zusätzlich zum Photobashing, habe ich auch Details selbst gemalt (Schatten, Lichter, Hintergrund, Vogelkacke, das Innere des Schädels ...).
