I feel it needs to be said that my Friday post was simply about me, in those moments, being raw with my feelings and letting people see me when I am in pain, at my worst. That’s when you really get to know someone.
That said, my husband is not some douche who just sits on the couch with his hand down down his pants:
He is a well intentioned step-father who accepted my four children and myself, while having no children of his own. While I know it is hard sometimes to “deal” with us, there’s never a question that he loves us or not.
After doing things outside of the house with my sons on Saturday, my sons and husband worked all day Saturday on their RC cars so they could go to the track on Sunday. On Sunday, he ran errands and did the grocery shopping- which he has done since Covid began. I did the gathering of things at the onset of all the fighting when he was getting set up to work from home so we were prepared. Little did I know that toilet paper would be the hold out point!
I digress, he humored me and let me do what I thought was needed. Personally, I think he was just happy I was supporting Trump ( FINALLY.)
When he took the kids to the RC track, their cars broke nearly immediately so they spent 5 hours playing corn hole and arcade games. He may not be my sons’ father, but he actually does things with them instead of buying their love. He teaches them how things work, how to fix things at a mechanical level. These are skills that will be much needed in the future.
I pray they remember these days and these activities. And I hope and pray to God that they appreciate him for what he IS teaching them that is good, despite his farts in the kitchen.
