As the sun rose over the fields with a golden glow rippling through the grass spears, the excitement built for my monthly hunterpace at Boarshead Ranch, Dade City, Florida. The horses loaded and ready for their work. My two riding buddies still half asleep in the passenger and back seats.

We trundled down the dirt track to the starting area, being the first to arrive, we had prime position next to the water and troughs. I was keen to get everyone saddled-up, mounted and off to the trail.

Some might be wondering, what exactly is a hunterpace, well, to give a quick overview. It is a 6-10 mile trail horse ride with approximately 10-20 jumps spread through out ranging in height from 1 foot to 3.5 foot. It isn't a race of whoever is the fastest. It is an optimal endurance race of who ever can get closest to the most optimal time relative to terrain, temperature and horse suitability. It is a lot of fun and a good overall test of riding capability.

Out in the field the hoses were supple and agile. Especially with the girls being good strong riders.

And well, not so supple. This could be called the leap of faith.

Horses, humans, hard work and sweat. A damn good way to spend a beautiful Florida country Sunday.
