My client and I arrived at Kayun Village at 11 in the morning. We were there to join a cooking lesson. A friendly restaurant staff named Made welcome us. She prepared a cup of coffee and fried banana as a welcome drink. Later, she took my client, Yuko, to pick some ingredients for the cooking lesson that day.
Made showed Yuko the garden that belong to the restaurant. She picked up some tomatoes, eggplants, spinach, lemongrass, and special flowers called bunga teleng. These flowers are used to make herbal drink that people sometimes drink in Bali.
After getting the ingredients from the garden, they went back to the open building which was still part of the restaurant main building. This place will be their kitchen. On the table in the kitchen, they put all the ingredients. There were some ingredients that were prepared earlier by other restaurant.
The cooking lesson last for about an hour or so. First Made showed and introduced the ingredients to Yuko. Sometimes I helped explaining about the ingredients when there is something was not clear to Yuko.
Then they were busy cutting spices, grating coconuts, grinding spices, cutting vegetables and wrapping meat or tuna in banana leaves. That day we had several dishes to cook including: mixed vegetables, chicken satay, vegetable curry.
Finally after all the cooking is done, the staff present the dishes on the table. It was lunch time when they finish. Enjoy your own cooking, Made and Desi said to my clients Yuko.
Enjoy your lunch, ladies and gentlemen.
