Bireuen Bus Terminal on the national highway in Geulumpang Payong Village, Jeumpa Sub-district, which has been completed for three years has not been functioned, so the assets of billions of dollars worth the area seem redundant.

The plan of Type B terminal is functioned in early 2017, as promised Bireuen Regent a few months ago. But until mid-April 2017, the transportation facility was still limited to display.

Iskandar, a resident of Jeumpa Sub-district on Sunday (16/4), hopes that the terminal can be functioned immediately, because with the active terminal it will affect the economic improvement of the local community.

"With the functioning of this terminal area there will be a crowd with public transport activities and traders in the surrounding areas will increase, so that will improve the economic level of the surrounding community," he hoped.

Moreover, the old bus station in the center of Bireuen City is not worth keeping because it is narrow. Bireuen District Government officials have previously committed to move the activity of the bus terminal to the new terminal.

Head of Bireuen District Transportation Department Mulyadi said on Sunday (16/4) that the management of the bus terminal has now become the authority of the Provincial Office of Transportation, so the Bireuen Regency is just waiting.

"It's up to the provinces when they want to function, if the District Government Bireuen only coordination and provide support in the form of suggestions. Indeed, the terminal has long been built, until now has not been functioned, "he said.

Mulyadi added that two bus terminals previously operated by Bireuen Transportation Department, Jeunieb and Peusangan bus terminals, are now closed.

"If there is activity of citizens who do the quotation of retribution to passing public transport, the quotation includes illegal levies (pungli), there is no connection with the Department of Transportation of Bireuen Regency," he said.
