After taking it slow through Act 1 and 2 I decided to change up my play style. So much in fact that I ended up completing the remaining 4 acts of the campaign in about the same time as it took me to complete the first two. I don't regret that one bit as I feel like it would have been a bit of a slog if I were to complete all that side content for each act.
It's safe to say that the story of Diablo 4 is solid. It starts off in quite an intense and captivating way and it ends off even better. There aren't that many twists and turns and most of the unfolding events are rather predictable but it does a really good job of settings things up for the future. They've said they're going to release additional story content every 3 months with the release of each new season and they've definitely given themselves a launchpad for that with the ending to this story.
Out of the 6 available acts I have to say that the first and last are definitely the best. The first act does exactly what it should do by setting up the plot and captivate you from the start. The acts in between can feel a bit like filler content at times especially since there's so much running between each objective if you don't stop to do side content on the way. Once you get to that last act though it's 100 mph from start to finish.
One thing Blizzard has always done well are cinematics and the ones we get to see in Diablo 4 are no exception. At several points across the campaign we come across these rose petals on the ground which are basically visions of Lilith that our character can see. I get so excited every time I see these cause I just know that there's an awesome cinematic coming up once I click it.
Once we get to Act 6 they really outdid themselves. It's like they dropped the cinematic of all cinematics on us. The usual cinematics last for about a minute or two but this masterpiece ended up being close to 10 minutes long. I was completely taken aback by it and my finger was perched on that screenshot button throughout the whole thing.
I continued playing as a fire Sorceress all the way through. It helt up through all stages of the campaign and since it was a rather fun build I never saw any reason to change it up. The build was pretty much complete at level 30 so for the last 20 levels I pretty much only pressed the same buttons over and over again. All of the skill points from then on out were only spent upgrading those skills or put into passive abilities to boost myself.
What was pretty cool though was the fact that I hit level 50 pretty much at the very end. Once the last boss was dead I leveled up to 50 during the post campaign quests. This was pretty much perfect timing seeing as once you hit level 50 you'll start earning a lot less experience that before until you unlock world tier 3, which can't be unlocked until after you complete the campaign. This was pretty much the whole reason why I changed up my play style so that I wouldn't soft cap myself in terms of experience gains halfway through the campaign.
Now that I've hit level 50 and will slowly start creeping into the endgame content I will probably do some more experimenting with builds. Builds are pretty much made around legendary and unique items in this game and since you don't choose what drops for you, you will sometimes have to go with the flow and what you get. I persevered with my fire build through the campaign even if I mostly had frost gear dropping for me but that won't really work if I want to push into the higher tiers of endgame content.
In terms of endgame content I have no idea what this game has to offer. I do know that there's world bosses that you can take on as a group and that dungeons will come in new and harder nightmare versions. Outside of that I have no idea. I still have to go mop up some side content to unlock all of the renown rewards as well. I really want to start a new character and play through the campaign on hardcore as well. I'll probably be doing a bit of both simultaneously.
Evne though the campaign is done the real game has barely begun. Expect to see tons more Diablo 4 content coming up
