This game is just so awesome. Even though I died close to 30 times and beat my head against a boss for more than an hour I had fun every second of the way. Maybe not so much the first few seconds after realising I died to the boss while he was down to 1% health. Just gotta keep my spirits up and keep going.
This game definitely is a Dark Souls game at heart with a few changes. All of the terms are of course changed. There's no more Estus Flasks but instead there's Flasks of Crimson Tears. Bonfires are now called Sites of Grace. Both of these offer the same mechanics that the Estus and Bonfires did but they look different and have a new name.
The biggest change is definitely the open world. Instead of locations being thoroughly made to interweave through shortcuts and locked door it's mostly just open. You can travel around on a horse and even fast travel to a Site of Grace from wherever you want. And that's a good thing seeing as this world is absolutely huge.

What you're seeing on stream today is what you'll be seeing for a long time going forward. This is gonna be my main game until I've explored every inch, nook and cranny of this amazing and beautiful world.
I can't even believe I'm playing this game. I can't remember the last time I was this excited for a game to be released. I don't even know if I've been this excited for a game to be released before. I had shivers when loading up the game and creating my character.
I've been playing for a little bit before I went live today. I made my character, got killed by a boss that I didn't get to fight again and learned how to fight in a small dungeon. Then I went out into the open world to get killed a few more times. This game is hard and punishing just like it should be.
I love strength builds in these games so I went with the Hero class. It does some decent damage but the axe that I started with has really poor range. I gotta find some big bonky weapon to increase that range a bit.
