Having seen a little more of what Baldur's Gate 3 has to offer I decided to change up my approach to the game a little bit. Long story short; Axii is now a monk and I've decided to go all in on the Githyanki roleplay for the rest of the campaign.

Do you remember the Lich I mentioned in my post about the secrets of the chapel? Turns out my next meeting with him that he told me about wasn't to far off. When I was resting in my camp in the Emerald Grove I noticed a new NPC standing there. Turns out it's him. He's called Withers and he lets me respec my character for the meager sum of 100 gold. I decided to go for it.

The reason for this change is pretty simple. I wanted to have Lae'zel in my party who is also a fighter, just like Axii. I don't want combat to get to boring and repetitive by having the same classes so I decided to change it up for Axii. He is now a Monk well versed in the way of the elements which lets him use magic attacks. It's not to far from the original plan I had by going Eldritch Knight. The main difference is that the spells are different and he will be using shortswords instead of big two handed swords. I can live with that.

Monks are one of the few classes I have close to no experience with from Dungeons & Dragons. Over my many years of both playing the game and running game as a dungeon master there's only been one player who has ever played a monk. It's high time I get to know this class better. I picked a spell called Fangs of the Fire Snake that lets me hit enemies with a flame whip within 6 meters. This also lights my fists on fire which makes my next melee attack deal 1-4 more damage. I also have a Water Whip that can either knock enemies prone or pull them towards me.

Monks also get quite a few extra cool abilities. I can expend Ki points to perform extra abilities in combat like getting an extra dash or simply getting extra attacks. Casting the aforementioned spells also require Ki points. I start out with 4 Ki points and regain them all after a short rest. I have to play the class a little more before I can say much more about it.

Lae'zel and the Gith

The reason I wanted to have Lae'zel in my party is that she's a Githyanki herself, just like Axii. This means they'll have a lot of synergy during dialogue that will open up a lot of new choices and hopefully also alter the story a fair bit. I'm sure I'll see things unfolding during the game that I wouldn't be seeing if I played as a gnome or human. Then again I would be seeing things playing as a gnome or human that I won't be seeing while playing as a Githyanki.

I'm also going to choose as many of the Githyanki dialogue options as possible. These are a bit cross and aggressive seeing as the Githyanki are a ruthless race bred out of and for war. There's no holding back on calling people weak and pathetic. I probably won't be making a lot of friends like this but I'll get to see the story in a different way than if I choose all the opposite dialogue options.

I'm also going to follow most of her guidance when it comes to doing quests and especially when following the main story. I like her character and I want to see how her story unfolds. I've always liked the Githyanki lore so this is perfect for me.

Finding the goblins

Now that I've had my fill of the Emerald Grove I've decided it's time to go see what these local goblins are up to. By the sound of things I shouldn't have a very hard time in finding them. When I do I'm going to kick their butt to see how Axii holds up in combat with his newfound skills and spells. Stay tuned.
