Hello, everyone in the Ladies of Hive community! It’s a pleasure to greet you again in this space where questions always invite us to look inward. This week’s topics touch on some very sensitive issues, so let’s get right to the point with my answers.

1️⃣ Has anyone ever made a wrong assumption about me without knowing the facts? How did I handle it? How did it make me feel?

Throughout life, we all face difficult moments, but some wounds hurt more when they come from those who are supposed to know you best.

I spent four years devoted body and soul to caring for my parents, who have since passed away. I put my burgeoning career on hold when my dad died and my mom was devastated, dealing with four ischemic strokes, a hip fracture, and becoming a kidney patient in a wheelchair until she passed away on June 1 after a fifth massive stroke. My siblings suggested I stay at home and live off the income I was generating as compensation for having put my own life on hold to care for her, while the three of them continued with their lives and only stopped by occasionally to visit her.

Things were going well until my country’s economy took a turn for the worse with currency reforms, and money became scarce. The house, built in 1961, began to suffer damage from the rain. For years, I sought out estimates, bought materials, and hired workers who came to “repair” it, but whenever it rained, water would still seep in.

This went on for several years. I was spending money and suffering as I watched the leaks persist without any guarantee from the workers. My siblings knew all about this, since I always sent them photos, invoices for my purchases, and the receipts some of those workers gave me. I always kept them in the loop; I never did anything behind their backs.

One day, my world came crashing down when I found out that my sister had told another of my brothers that she was sure I wasn’t fixing anything and that I was just wasting the money, because “it wasn’t possible for the leaks to keep happening.” I was in complete shock. Their solution was for my brother to move in with his wife to take care of everything, since none of them believed what I had done.

How did it make me feel? I felt devastated, powerless, and deeply misunderstood. I cried, I argued, I defended myself with evidence in hand, and when I saw that the wall of mistrust was impenetrable, I simply gave up. I told them, “Fine, think whatever you want. Time will prove me right.”

And time, indeed, spoke for itself. Today, my brother manages the household income and has realized that the money isn’t enough to cover so much damage, that the previous jobs failed, and that I was scammed just as they would have been. After a while, my siblings apologized to me for behaving that way. It was a bitter pill to swallow, but in the end, the evidence spoke for itself, and things fell into place.

2️⃣ How has my favorite color changed over time? What drove that change?

If we look back, our tastes evolve at the same pace as we do. In my case, my favorite color has always been royal blue—an intense, deep shade full of character that has always resonated deeply with me.

However, as the years have passed and after going through such emotionally intense phases—such as the years of caregiving, the demands of life, and the constant search for balance—my tastes have also shifted toward the strength and elegance of black, as well as the energy of red. These colors not only reflect an evolution in my personality but also the maturity and resolve with which I face the world today: black as a symbol of character and independence, and red as that spark of passion and strength that never fades.

¿Cómo me hizo sentir?

¿Cómo me hizo sentir? Me sentí devastada, impotente y profundamente incomprendida.
