Todos tenemos en nuestras casas, cachivaches que están arrumados en el cuarto destinado para eso. Son esas cosas que no desechamos, porque, en mi caso, les tengo especial cariño, ya que representan recuerdos preciosos de mi niñez. O también tenemos cosas que simplemente guardamos "por si acaso", para darle espacio a algo nuevo.
En estos días en los que la conexión a Internet, me ha dejado fuera del mundo virtual, me he puesto a arreglar ese espacio de la casa y conseguí un carrito para las frutas, un estante para las especias y una tabla de picar pescado, que daban terror solo con verlas y me puse a pensar qué podría hacer con ellas.
We all have in our homes, junk that is piled up in the room intended for that purpose. Are those things that we don't throw away, because, in my case, I have a special affection for them, since they represent precious memories of my childhood. Or we also have things that we simply keep "just in case", to make room for something new.
In these days in which the Internet connection has left me out of the virtual world, I have started to fix that space in the house and I got a fruit cart, a spice rack and a fish chopping board, which were terrifying just to see them and I started to think about what I could do with them.
Este es el carrito de frutas 🤦♀️ lleno de un montón de cosas inútiles. Hasta una cinta de VHS y mucha mucha, pero mucha basura, que no tengo idea de por qué mis padres fueron guardando allí.
Lo primero que hice, fue desocuparlo y realmente solo pude rescatar pocas cosas.
Ahora me pondría a restaurarlo.
This is the fruit cart 🤦 filled with a bunch of useless stuff. Even a VHS tape and lots and lots and lots of junk, which I have no idea why my parents were keeping there.
The first thing I did, was to clear it out and I could really only rescue few things.
Now I would start restoring it.
Lo primero que hice, fue comprar pintura en spray, pero lamentablemente y como se ve en la foto de arriba, había muy poca variedad; así que me decidí por una marrón y una amarilla, porque solo tenían los colores amarillo, marrón y negro.
Al llegar a casa, mi hijo se puso a ayudarme a quitar la pintura (costras de pintura vieja) del carrito.
Una vez terminado este paso, procedimos a pintar. Es la primera vez que utilizo pintura en spray y me resultó el olor, muy fuerte, por lo que tuve que ponerme tapabocas.
The first thing I did, was to buy spray paint, but unfortunately and as you can see in the photo above, there was very little variety; so I decided on a brown and a yellow one, because they only had the colors yellow, brown and black.
When I got home, my son started to help me remove the paint (old paint crusts) from the cart.
Once this step was completed, we proceeded to paint. It was the first time I used spray paint and I found the smell very strong, so I had to wear a mask.
Poco a poco le fue cambiando el aspecto al carrito, sin embargo, el color amarillo era muy aguadito y no cubrió como yo quería. No obstante, le dio un aspecto envejecido. De igual manera, se estaba viendo mucho mejor que antes 😊
Little by little, it changed the look of the cart, however, the yellow color was very watery and did not cover the way I wanted it to. Nevertheless, it gave it an aged look. Still, it was looking much better than before 😊.
Mientras esperaba a que se secara, me puse a pintar el estante de especias y la tabla de picar pescado 🐟
En este punto, tuve que salir de nuevo a comprar dos pinturas en spray, porque la otra se había terminado. Increíble lo poco que dura.
Al volver, me puse a pintar el estante de especias y puedo decir con franqueza, que me encantó como quedó. Parecía nuevo. Maravilloso.
While waiting for it to dry, I got to painting the spice rack and fish chopping board 🐟
At this point, I had to go out again to buy two spray paints, because the other one had run out. Amazing how short it lasts.
Upon returning, I set about painting the spice rack and I can honestly say, I loved how it turned out. It looked like new. Wonderful.
Esperé hasta la noche, para que estuviese bien seco.
Ahora pensé en añadirle un toque delicado al estante de especias y a la tabla de picar.
Cogí los pinceles, aunque al final utilicé solo uno. Uno crayón blanco para dibujar sobre la base marrón y tres colores que sabía, resaltarían de forma bonita.
I waited until the evening, so that it would be very dry.
Now I thought I'd add a delicate touch to the spice rack and chopping board.
I picked up the brushes, although in the end I used only one. One white crayon to draw over the brown base and three colors that I knew, would pop beautifully.
Lo primero que hice fue dibujar en color blanco, la florecita que quería. Como me encantan los tulipanes y los girasoles, dibujé tres tulipanes sencillos para cada lado del estante de especias.
Luego pinté los bordes, para luego rellenar el color de adentro.
Esperé que se secara, para tirarle la otra capa de pintura. Necesitó tres capas. Pero quedó bonito, ¿verdad?
The first thing I did was to draw the little flower I wanted in white. Since I love tulips and sunflowers, I drew three single tulips for each side of the spice rack.
I then painted the edges, and then filled in the color inside.
I waited for it to dry, to throw the other coat of paint on. It took three coats. But it looked nice, didn't it?
Ahora vamos con la tabla de cortar pescado. Es el mismo procedimiento. Lo que cambié fue el dibujo del tulipán, por girasoles.
Now let's go to the fish cutting board. It is the same procedure. What I changed was the drawing of the tulip, for sunflowers.
Para darle un toque de textura, dibujé pequeños puntitos con corrector tippex. Poco a poco, fue poniéndose más bonito.
To give it a touch of texture, I drew small dots with tippex concealer. Little by little, it got prettier.
Y este es el resultado final. Logré darle vida a tres objetos que ya habían perdido su belleza y que estaban arrumados en el cuarto de atrás. Ahora, han renacido y vuelven a ser útiles.
And this is the final result. I was able to give life to three objects that had already lost their beauty and that were piled up in the back room. Now, they have been reborn and are useful again.
