I tend to write about things that strike me as either very funny or very sad. I'm not so good at writing about anything too nuanced. I wish I could write about being in love, but the lyrics end up up a bit cliched with me and I start to write a funny song instead...you know the usual rhymes..'Love' and 'above'...then instantly my mind goes on to think of the word 'shove'...which in itself is a silly kind of word and then I'll go off track totally.
Yeah.. songs do NOT appear like magic out of thin air for me. I think for some people lyrics just do pour out of their minds. My friend @todayslight is excellent at writing lyrics.
I have started many songs and just not finished them. I have lyrics hanging around all over the place and random musical ideas. They just rarely seem to come together. I did write a song in four part harmony for my choir...it's called The Fire Exit Song...in German 'Landler' style (cue the lederhosen and thigh slapping) and is probably equal in silliness to anything you wrote to entertain you baby daughter.
