It was late, and we had been driving for hours. The music had become a blur of sound as most of us were too tired to pay attention. The rode was empty and all that could be seen for miles, were trees on either side of the rode. Stacy and Mackenzie were playing ‘I spy’ while Johnna layer between them snoring to the tempo of the music. Zack and I sat quietly in the front as I drove.
“what’s that?” Mackenzie asked. Pointing at a figure up ahead.
All five of us suddenly stared it. As we got closer, we saw that it was a young man, hitch hiking.
“Babe” Stacy taped the back of my shoulder “maybe we should pick him up” the sound of concern filled her tone.
I sighed. “k” was all I could muster my tired lips to say.
We slowed down and started pulling to the side. The young man started jogging after the car and once we stopped Mackenzie moved to sit o Johnna’s lap.
“Thanks” the young man said as he jumped in.
“No worries. Where to?” I asked.
“There’s a town a few files forward you can just drop me there.”
After driving for a while we ended up in a very small town. The young man offered to le let as crash at his place and since we were all exhausted we decided to take him up on his offer. We grabbed the first place we could sleep and past out.
The next morning, we were woken up by a loud scream. I jumped up and saw a strange man and woman standing in front of me.
“Who are you?” the man demanded.
“Alex” I answered shocked.
“What are you doing in our house!?” He asked.
“Your son let us stay the night” I replied confused.
“that’s not funny” His face turned pale.
“He said his name was Max”
“What?” The woman asked as she moved back to sit down on a couch behind her.
“We picked him up next to the road and we said we could stay the night. I’m sorry we’ll leave.”
Everyone else was heading for the door as I spoke.
“Our son has been missing for five years.”
“I guess I found my way home” a voice behind me said.
“Son?” They said simultaneously.
