At the university of arts I have a curricular unit called community art project (PAC) that allows us to address social and transformative issues through art that benefit one or many communities. This semester I developed a hypothetical project with which I was going to address the problems that affect a park that is near the area where I live and that is currently a bit deteriorated and the entities in charge of its maintenance do not pay attention to it, so I developed a project to create, together with the community that lives in the park, a proposal that generates a sense of belonging through art and allows its surroundings to be kept in excellent condition. The project consists of bringing together several visual artists from the area and generating several sculptural proposals that we can place in various strategic points within the park spaces to decorate the place and generate a flow of visitors who want to appreciate art, apart from other artistic activities that would be done in the park spaces.
En la universidad de artes tengo una unidad curricular llamada proyecto art铆stico comunitario (PAC) que nos permite abordar mediante el arte temas sociales y transformadores que beneficien a una o muchas comunidades; en este semestre desarrolle un proyecto hipot茅tico con el que iba a abordar las problem谩ticas que afectan a un parque que se encuentra cerca de la zona donde vivo y que actualmente est谩 un poco deteriorado y los entes encargados de su mantenimiento no le prestan atenci贸n, por eso desarrolle un proyecto para crear junto a la comunidad que hace vida en el parque una propuesta que genere un sentido de pertenencia mediante el arte y permita mantener en excelentes condiciones sus alrededores. El proyecto consiste en reunir a varios artistas pl谩sticos de la zona y generar varias propuestas escult贸ricas que podamos ubicar en varios puntos estrat茅gicos dentro de los espacios del parque para adornar el lugar y generar un flujo de visitantes que quieran apreciar el arte, aparte de otras actividades art铆sticas que se har铆an en los espacios del parque.
Since this was all a hypothetical exercise to meet the requirements to pass the class, I had to create my own sculptural proposal to scale to present as one of the sculptures that would be installed in the park as part of the project. I made several sketches to design my proposal until I managed to generate a figure that I would be satisfied with if I were to make it on a large scale.
Como todo esto era un ejercicio hipot茅tico para cumplir con los requerimientos para aprobar la clase, ten铆a que crear mi propia propuesta escult贸rica a escala para presentarla como una de las esculturas que se instalar铆an en el parque como parte del proyecto. Realice varios bocetos para ir dise帽ando mi propuesta hasta que logre generar una figura con la que me sent铆a satisfecho si la llegara a realizar a gran escala.
For this small model I used a soft, malleable sheet of aluminum that I had stored at home and that is ideal for this type of creations. I cut the sheet into three sections and gave them the shape I wanted to create the body of the structure. It is worth noting that the park where I am hypothetically going to install the sculpture is called "Negro Primero" park, paying homage to Pedro Camejo, a Venezuelan hero. For this reason, the sculptural proposal I designed also pays homage to this illustrious figure in the history of my country.
Para esta peque帽a maqueta utilic茅 una l谩mina blanda de aluminio muy maleable que ten铆a guardada en mi casa y que es ideal para este tipo de creaciones; recort茅 la l谩mina en tres secciones y les di la forma que deseaba para ir generando el cuerpo de la estructura. Cabe destacar que el parque en donde hipot茅ticamente voy a instalar la escultura lleva como nombre parque "Negro Primero" haciendo homenaje a Pedro Camejo un pr贸cer de Venezuela; por esa raz贸n la propuesta escult贸rica que dise帽e tambi茅n hace homenaje a ese personaje ilustre de la historia de mi pa铆s.
After having the structure of the sculpture a little more defined, I added black forge paint to cover the entire body with a uniform, solid color.
Despu茅s de tener un poco m谩s definida la estructura de la escultura le agregue pintura de fondo negro de herrer铆a para cubrir todo el cuerpo de un color uniforme y s贸lido.
When the paint was dry, I placed the sculpture on a wooden base that I reused from an old trophy I won years ago when I played chess. This scale sculpture turned out really well, I really liked the final result and the best of all is that the teacher surprised us by giving us the news that these proposals we made will be exhibited in a museum. This will be my first exhibition in a museum. What a joy. Next week I have to help with the pre-assembly of the pieces and then the exhibition will open to the public. Cuando la pintura ya estaba seca coloque la escultura en una base de madera que reutilice de un viejo trofeo que me hab铆a ganado hace a帽os cuando jugaba ajedrez; de verdad quedo muy bien esta propuesta escult贸rica a escala, me gust贸 mucho el resultado final y lo mejor de todo es que la profesora nos sorprendi贸 d谩ndonos la noticia de que estas propuestas que realizamos las vamos a exponer en un museo, esta ser谩 mi primera exposici贸n en un museo, que felicidad, la semana que viene tengo que ayudar en el premontaje de las piezas y luego se apertura al p煤blico la exposici贸n, pronto estar茅 publicando esa experiencia.
