Hello Hive Gamers! Today I bring you the twelfth chapter of my campaign in Great Conqueror 2: Shogun. Having officially wrapped up the first chapter of the main campaign, I decided to take the liberty of jumping straight into the highly anticipated conquest mode. But before diving headfirst into the grand strategy, I first had to complete a quick tutorial on how to recruit and assign generals. These legendary characters add crucial, game-changing combat buffs and stat bonuses to the specific units they command.
For starters, the game handed me two default commanders: Maeda Keiji, a formidable cavalry general, and Kinoshita Hideyoshi, a skilled infantry general. Not a bad roster at all to kick off a global campaign! Upon opening the conquest mode menu, I quickly realized that this is not just a mindless sandbox where you charge in blindly; there are several distinct historical scenarios depicting different eras of the Sengoku Jidai conflict, and even one covering the Shogunate's war against Korea, which took place right after the unification wars in Japan.
For my very first run, I selected the opening scenario called the "Battles of Owari" and chose to take control of the Saito clan. Right from the moment the map loaded, I noticed the scale is massive, focusing on central Japan. Units can move across multiple tiles per turn, and there are countless objectives, towns, and tactical choices available, providing an incredible sense of freedom. However, the geopolitical situation is perilous: in this campaign, I am immediately at war with the Oda clan. Since they are heavily armed and some of my frontier provinces are terribly underdefended, a brutal and challenging start definitely awaits me!
