Don't leave your Crypto online.
Exchanges, betting sights and other forms of online storage should be minimized to a small portion or none of your Crypto.
Here is my story. I'll start with the greatest and largest disaster Mt. Gox. When people started asking the questions on why it was taking their large withdraw amounts so long to process I knew something was up. During the sinking of this titanic rather than make large withdrawals I shot for small amounts which were readily approved. Day after day while others panicked I slowly got everything out EXCEPT fiat currency. This I decided to rebuy Bitcoin with. It was very expensive to do this as the price was so inflated but once I got the money out in the form of Bitcoin then I converted some of it back into fiat fearing a BTC price collapse. I was right, bitcoin appeared artificially inflated and it began its slow and prolonged collapse in price. I lost but nothing compare to others. The signs were there. Exchanges are big red bulls eyes and frequently get hacked. Multiple exchanges have died as a result of hacks . Now it is happening again with BTC and ETH.
The second disaster was the fallout of Mt. Gox. A number of gambling sites just disappeared right after the Gox collapse. I had several bitcoin tied up in bets and futures. The sites just vanished and walked off with my crypto.
Nothing beats storing your own Crypto offline with multisignatures, bip38 password protection and storing in multiple locations to protect against fire or theft.
If someone online has the private keys to your bitcoin or other crypto you don't own it, they do.
