This reminds me of a video I saw about some social problems in Japan. I think, from what I remember, the difference there is that people are saving money and not really spending it. When the government issues a stimulus, it does nothing really for the economy since the cash is just being hoarded. They also have a growing elderly population. They usually work well into old age to stay active but pushing the retirement age to 74 is murder.
