We grow up being told that our country is amazing; that we have so much freedom and should be thankful. In school we start the day with singing a song of worship to it, to pay your taxes, support the troops, vote, consume, ignore; clearly we are indoctrinated since birth. But what if we took a step back and looked at our 'coveted' system?
The only reason the government functions is because we pay our taxes, or should I say, our fair share. We need to pay in order to have the roads, the schools, and healthcare. The government needs to provide these services, so we should give them our money! Wrong, we may perform the act of giving it, but it is backed by the threat of force. Taxation is not voluntary. If one does not pay the government a portion of their earnings, they face repercussions. So, what is taxation? In simple terms, taxation is theft. By definition theft means _, which is a perfect definition of taxation also. This means that the government's existence is inherently immoral. It is a monopoly that we ignorantly submit to.
Now that we've established the basis of the states immorality, we can go into details about what they do. The government knows what their position is; they know they are not necessary, and that they must depend on the peoples submission in order to continue government. So, how do they achieve this goal? It is simple really, they must make us dependent on them, and trick us into believing they have our best interests in mind. Neither of these are true of course; however, thanks to capitalism for providing us with luxurious lifestyles, we have become too self absorbed to care. The media is controlled by the same corporations that rule alongside the government, gifting them the power to use these tools in order to manipulate us into being scared. For example, they show us a lot of anti-gun propaganda and telling tragic stories where guns have been used to harm. It has caused us the give up our weapons and collectively agree that they are evil and unsafe. We're so comfortable doing this that we completely overlook how historically, when the government disarmed the citizens, it was often followed by genocide. Dictators like Mao and Stalin used the same anti-gun propaganda as we see today, even Hitler once said, "The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjugated races to possess arms." This goes to show how easily we are manipulated into giving up our freedom. We are always victims of propaganda, and the government is fully aware of this.
Since have established how easy it is for us to give up our freedom, we need to understand why. The answer is simple; it comes right down to democracy. If, by some chance, we make the connection between gun control and mass murder, will it be enough to persuade people that gun control is wrong? There's a possibility some will change their mind, but due to democracy it is easy for us to write that off as something that will never happen here. Mao wanted power, Hitler was racist, but we have democracy so our government works for us. How could they possibly have ulterior motives? We elected them! Sure, they're not perfect, but they have our best interests in mind, right? Well, what if i told you that they didn't. They are still power hungry, and more so the corporations that back the government and bride it into doing what they want. Democracy has desensitized us of the true horrors of what governments can accomplish; or better yet, destroy. We are told that we need to be thankful of having the opportunity to getting to elect our rulers, and that if we do not vote we have no right to complain.
What is the most important thing that our system should grant us? Is it a sense of security; or the free services we get through the public sector? No, it is neither of those. There is something more important that we should have. It is something we are born with, freedom. Our political and economic systems can not give this to us. In fact, it is something that they often take from us. We have the right to be free individuals, and the only system that will give us this stolen right back is voluntaryism. Many believe this 'system' of sorts is unrealistic because humans are too irresponsible to be left with their own free will. However, in a voluntarist society citizens would have to follow the non-aggression principle. There could also be a police force, roads, postal service, and everything else we rely on the government for. If one thinks about it, there is no reason to have a middleman between us and the services we need. Humans are capable of self-governing. If they were not capable of this, then why should they be put in a position to govern others also? There is no logic behind governing. Freedom is how we prosper.
People will deny this and claim that humans have always created governments because governments work. Yet, these same people fail to name one government that was efficient and did no harm. No matter how one tries to justify it, government will always be created due to fear instead of logic. If logic were the basis of statist arguments, they would still fall short of explaining how taxation is not theft. It is best to look past to propaganda, drop the false hope, and give voluntaryism a chance. After all, if one needs to justify their system by saying it is a necessary evil, they have already lost. Evil is never necessary.
