The problems of Angela Merkel in domestic politics can lead to the loss of the post of Chancellor of Germany, which will please not only Vladimir Putin, but also Donald Trump and Emmanuel Macron, CNN columnist David Andelman writes. However, in his opinion, the resignation of the "conscience of the continent" and the "reliable anchor of Europe" can lead both to a weakening of NATO, and to aggravating the crisis with refugees.
However, according to the observer, no one is able to replace the German Chancellor in her place.
