I once heard a story of an ancient artiste called Michelangelo who worked on an enormous block of marble that stood in the works department of the church of Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence. It had once been a magnificent piece of raw stone, but an unskilled sculptor had mistakenly bore a hole in it and disfigured it. The then mayor Piero Soderini had tried different artists and sculptor to correct the mistake but to no avail until Michelangelo who only could make a meaningful structure out of it. Weeks after Michelangelo was putting his final touches on the statue the mayor walked into the studio. After studying the huge work he told Michelangelo that the nose was too big. Michelangelo knew that Soderini was standing in a place wrong place under the giant figure and could not have a proper view of it. Rather than arguing with the mayor he picked up his chisel, as well as a bit of marble dust that lay on the planks and started taping lightly with the chisel and letting a bit of dust he had gathered in his hand to fall little by little. He actually did nothing to change the nose, but gave an appearance that he was working on it. After few minutes the mayor looked at it and said it now looked better that he liked it. The story sounds a bit cunning right, but rather than arguing with the mayor Michelangelo satisfied the mayor ego without changing anything
Daily a lot of us engage in aimless and fruitless arguments. Arguments ranging from topics like music, fashion, sports, movies and so on. Each party involved in the argument try to make his or her point or view superior to the other. This activity requires a lot of physical and intellectual energy and also consumes lots of time with little or no benefits to either of the parties involved, the truth is that we careless of these things what we are concerned is that we win. One thing we should have in mind is that any momentary triumph you think you have gained through argument is really a Pyrrhic victory.
Silence is golden, most times people always what to listen to the silent party after every party has noisily made his point as they feel he or she also has something to say. Now this party has the opportunity to air out his view without out been obstructed, people tend to learn more this way. Sometimes you know silence speaks louder than words, that is to say few words might just be needed to make your point. I tell people sometimes instead of arguing why not show how it is done. This means saves a lot of time and energy and still making a lot of point. Let’s reduce the way we engage in fruitless arguments they take from us than they give to us. Rather than mere words let your behavior, gestures, actions to the talking. In conclusion argument comes up in all areas and field of life ranging from work to fun areas, but why not be different in going about these activity it makes you look more matured and distinctive kind of set a part in way not to forget people respect men of few words, that is to say. Let’s learn to win through our actions, never through argument.
