I believe setting up, stating and defining ones goal a really essential in achieving anything. A goal can be defined as an idea of the future or desired result that a person or a group of people envisions, plans and commits to achieve. I believe every reasonable person has a goal he our she has set for themselves to o achieve, but the question is that have you ever stopped to think about the importance of short term goals and do you have mini goal, or short term goals.
Had this conversation with some colleagues at the work place today and the topic was where do you see yourself in years to come more like what you want to achieve in the near future time. And of course alot of us had many things to say all have on thing in common success. Some want to have certain amount of money in their account, some want to have finished the part time course the presently doing, some even want to get married l, some wanting to be living a luxurious life and so on all still balling down to the same thing success. Over the discussion someone popped a question that made a few of us dumb founded, what are your short term plans. He even narrowed it down to what are your plans, goals you want to achieve this week. The truth is that most of us did not have a goal for the week and it's the middle of the week and we yet done of us have to achieve something tangible that week.
This was like a wake up or more a food for thought for me. I pondered on this matter and it dawned on me how important short term plans are important to us and also essential in achieving our futuristic goal. I know some us never thought of it or term it less important to us. This are some reasons why short plans goals are important and why you should have one to day.
1. They give you a sense of purpose
Your achievements or failure on smaller goals may not define your ultimate goal, but it's more like a way to get inspired and a zeal to work hard daily. Haveing short term goal might seem like a waste of time and unnecessary but the truth is you waste more time in doing irrelevant things that have little or no benefit to your ultimate goal. So why not get yourself engaged.
2. Optimal use of energy and time
Have short term goals or should I say having weekly or daily plans can be a way to burn out those used energy and time. Instead of staying idea or engaging in pointless activities, why not have small goals that have a connection or related to your main goal and achieve them. Believe it brings you a step closer than you imagine.
3. They are easy to achieve
Most times short term goals are often easy to achieve or attain cause they could be considered as the tip of the iceberg. But this easy tasks contribute more than you think as they say droplets of water make an ocean. Collective easy task solved over time might just be essential in solving the bigger one.
4. Motivation
They are a way of motivating ones self. When you achieve short term goals over time maybe because if their easy nature it gives you a feeling or boost that you are capable of attaining anytyn.
5. Increase your success rate on long term goals
One interesting thing about shot term goals is that they often attribute to the achievement of long term goals. Imagine you set up a plan to build up your body as on of your new year resolution. No matter how hard you try you can't achieve it in one day. You need achieve other tasks smaller ones that would collectivly attribute to the final goal of building your body.
What better way to achieve your goals than breaking them into smaller bits. I believe each and everyone of us should have a short term goal. Sometimes a week pass by and yet we do not have anything tangible to show that this is what we achieved. This is more like a wake up call to each and everyone of us, success does not fall on anyone you achieve it, one of the ways to achieve it is by setting goals, and one of the ways to easily and quickly achieve goals is by breaking them or setting up smaller goals to achieve the main goal
