The Effective Altruist movement has a structural issue with conservative America: its donor base is concentrated among Bay Area progressives... Its policy program, calling for broad AI rules and content oversight, comes across to many conservatives as precisely what it is—a censorship power play disguised as safety rhetoric. To advance that program, the movement needed a vehicle that wouldn't appear to have come from them
