It is easier to spend the money you never worked so hard for than the one you sweat and struggle hard to get. Part of the reason you see those lottery winners and heirs blow off their money quickly after getting rich is because they never learned the skills of how to manage, protect and grow their money. Another reason is that they never sacrifice or sweat to get that kind of money.

This is a mistake many people make. I am not excluded in this scenario because there were times I squandered so quickly money given to me in the hope that I'd get another one back. When I started growing up and understanding what it takes to be an adult and working to earn some money to survive, no one taught me to start learning how to make a budget, save and even invest because I have come to understand what being financially stable means.

There are some millionaires today who worked hard for their money, sacrificed and risked a lot of things just to get that fortune on their laps and they have learned just how to guard it because of how hard it is to build riches worth seven figures and these kind of people are careful not to go back to where they started from. Beginning from scratch to make millions isn't an easier journey and when one finally hits that jackpot, it is necessary to guard and grow that money to bring in more.

It takes financial discipline to struggle your way to wealth and this means setting your hands on things you might want and can afford. This is how to turn a small fortune into a huge one, as said by Brian Crane, the founder and CEO of Spread Great Ideas.

One of the lessons Brian learnt so hard while growing up was that when one spends so lavishly without checks and balances, such an individual would turn into a pauper overnight, and with this, he worked so hard and became a millionaire. He sold his first company in his late 20s and made some bad investment decisions which made him go bankrupt, he was able to bounce back on his feet with some lessons he learned along the way.

The Web 2 social media will open your eyes to the extravagant lifestyles of many celebrities — movies, music, and sports stars, these people enjoy flaunting their wealth on shiny things, thereby splurging their monies on things that aren't necessary. One thing about money is that, when you can see the huge amount in your account, you will be tempted to spend on things, especially on materials that depreciate rather than appreciate. Crane emphasised the need to recognize the importance of quality and cost. Rather than buying things from an expensive store that would not last long, you could try moving to a cheaper store with quality apparel and save yourself from spending your fortunes on shiny things that are low on quality. Check what Crane has to say about this:

"Extravagance may look good to the eyes, but you can do better by putting the same money into more appropriate investments."

So many people became rich at an early age but all of a sudden, they became poor due to some bad decisions they made and not understanding how to make money work for them. People are easily tempted to live a flamboyant lifestyle when they become wealthy, thereby forgetting how they started maybe they would try to be careful not to lose such an opportunity again. The worst that could happen to a man is becoming poor again after working so hard to become rich. This is due to their reckless lifestyles, extravagant vacations that aren't necessary but just to increase their status symbol etc.

One thing we need to know is that having millions of dollars in your account or wallet doesn't make you an abundant person. Money does not change anybody, you change yourself. So, if you do not work or improve yourself, such an amount cannot magically change your personality, character and aura. This is why it is important to understand how to manage one's fortune, thereby focusing on investments that will bring more money, avoiding those opulent lifestyles and utilising time more judiciously. Managing money can be so challenging, but it is so important in leading a fulfilling life. You can take control of your finances and set goals for a brighter future. There is no right time to start as one can begin today by creating the better life one wants for themselves.
