Just as we are always looking up to other people as our role models, so also, there are those looking up to us as their role models. If we do not know, people are watching us from a corner as we might not know until they approach us and compliment the kind of traits we possess.
Some days ago, we talked about our role models, and for this last weekly edition, we are doing the reverse where we talk about ourselves and let people know what kind of qualities or attributes we possess that would make them convinced to make us their role models.
I am always happy when people say to my face that they admire my personality and they would happily encourage me to keep it up, which of course I keep doing because I wouldn't want to fail anyone or make other people think otherwise of me. Though we aren't perfect as there are flaws in us, there is still the best part of us that makes people want to also associate with us.
I have a soft heart. Yes, this is one thing I see in myself and I am always trying to maintain the value as I understand that there are people who keep looking up to me. My soft heart comprises many values which are; gentleness, generosity, quick to forgive etc.
My heart is so soft that I can't stand hurting other people because I love to be empathetic. I feel the pain others would go through and I am always careful not to cause any trouble for another person. I don't even have the strength for any problem and so, I go on my own and will never find any trouble whatsoever.
I don't know how to take my eyes away when I see people in a bad mood or state. I love generosity and this is something I learned from my Dad right from a young age. My Dad will not mind giving out the last cent on him to help another person and this is something I took from him. I believe in the act of giving and helping others when I am in the capacity to do it.
This is one of the reasons I have enough foodstuffs in the house and when I noticed someone not having them, I extend my hand to give, and to God be the glory, I have enjoyed even from places I never expected.
I am so gentle to the extent that I smile even when you hurt me because I don't know how to hold grudges or keep malice. No matter what you do to me, I easily forgive and let go because I always remember the scripture that says “forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us”. If I don't forgive others for the small things they do to me, who am I to receive forgiveness from God for the huge sins I have committed and He still embraces me when I go to Him?
Another quality is that I respect people, irrespective of who they are; whether young or old, I believe that everyone deserves to be respected. Respect is reciprocal and if you want it, you have to earn it.
Some people have the habit of waiting for others to respect them first before reciprocating. Though it is normal but when you have taken it too seriously that until they give it to you, you won't do otherwise. I am far more than that and I don't care about that. I do things in my way and do not please another person. I give respect to both young and old including strangers.
Another thing about me is that I am patient and consistent. No matter how small something is, I believe I will achieve it big when I am consistent. Just like Hive, someone can give up writing because of the low earnings they receive but one of the mantras I hold onto is that “a little drop of water makes an ocean”.
No matter how little it is, someday it will yield a bigger reward and I will never stop going with it. Hardly would you see me giving up on something unless I don't want to involve in such a thing and before that can happen, I would have weighed such a thing to see if it won't affect me later or won't regret it.
Finally, I am humble. Just like respecting people irrespective of who they are, I humble myself to the core because I have come to believe that everyone is equal and no one is to be treated anyhow. We all are the same in the hands of God and no matter what level you are that is lower than mine, I will bring myself to your level. I don't know how to look down or less on people and I will never do that.
Just because I have something others do not have does not make me separate myself from them. We play and laugh together and no one knows tomorrow. I treat people the same way I want to be treated and one thing we should always remember is that everything on earth is vanity and when those things are gone, the only people that will be left are people around us, both the ones we are good to and the ones we looked down on, and by then, their actions will be determined by how you have treated them in the past.
So humble yourself and relate with people kindly. Never treat anyone as trash because they say humans are like water, we don't know where we would meet again.
