I was having a conversation with my younger sister who serves in the Eastern part of Nigeria yesterday and she told me she got a job at her dream company. I felt joyous for her at a moment and was congratulating her. Perhaps I was too excited to listen to her more until she sent another message that she lost the Job. My mood changed and I asked how come?
She said she did the interview and passed and was chosen but later, she was dropped down the list. According to her, the company requested for her NYSC certificate which she is yet to finish. She will be ending by April but this company refused her when she told them she was ready to work and would provide the certificate later.
I had to console her, encouraging her that God will do the best. Truly, this was her chance but just because she isn´t through with her service, she was being deprived. I wouldn´t blame her but the system in the country. Her service got delayed then because of the Covid19 that came into existence which made her not to go at the right time. Now, her dream job which was very hard to get through has failed her. It´s such a pity though but there is nothing we can do.
Now, why do I put up such title? I am going somewhere, so keep reading....
An uncle of ours worked in the company before he was transferred abroad. This uncle is the husband of my Aunt and the company is a big one in Lagos called Erickson company for those who knows it.
I had to console my sister that she shouldn´t worry because Uncle Femi will help her get the job once she is through with her NYSC. She then told me this man doesn´t believe in connection, but believes in working hard to get it.
There are people like my Uncle who has the power to help others, not that they are selfish or wicked, but they want you to work it for yourself and get it directly instead of relying on someone in the position to do it. But most people do not understand it, but thinks they are wicked and do not want them to succeed in life.
I am not against being connected to a great opportunity through someone you know, but at times, one has to make effort first and work for it. I think this will help you appreciate the job more except in some occasion where God´s intervention is involved.
Even if at all you want someone you know to help you with their connection, you have to try first before being helped. Though we all feel happy when we see our relatives in a position where you don´t have to work before you get what you want but know that such help wouldn´t be taken dearly to heart unless you know it is your effort that brought you there.
This is why we shouldn´t rely on anyone but ourselves. No matter what life may be, we still experience disappointment at a certain point in time and we are left at a crossroad.
Make effort first, then you can ask for help later.
