Weekend Engagement Concept
Some months to finish our final year in school, my friend kept making it known that she would be getting married that same year, and we must attend, no matter where we are. I made her know there was no big deal, as long as we aren't so occupied and if we miss such a day, we would come around during her naming ceremony of her children. She just kept quiet but wanted us to come by all means.
One thing I would always want from people is to understand, and never be too rigid over a matter. There are some things you can never compromise your career with, especially when it has to be something you must meet its deadline, or else, you are losing your career.
Let's say I got a deadline for a project, and my career is at stake, and at that time, someone close to me, either in my family or a close friend scheduled a social function at that moment. “I must be there!” He or she says, but at that moment, I only have that time or weekend to work on that project. Which do I go for?
Go for the function and forget about the project, then lose my career over a day's function? Nah!
There are many functions I have missed because they fell on dates I needed to get something done or be at an important place. All I do is text or put a call through the person doing it, explain myself and the reason I won't be available or attending. Then, I move further to schedule a date to make up with him or her. That's simple!
Do you know why? There are still many functions we gonna celebrate together and enjoy, but my career? Something putting food on my table and taking care of me for life! No, No No!
Some people still wouldn't want to accept that, just like my friend but she doesn't have a choice. Does she?
My career or a function? It's obvious which I would go for because the person whom I am attending their functions won't provide another career for me. I am on the loose end if such should happen.
I believe that there are still many things we would celebrate together with in the future and missing just a day's function shouldn't be a pain to them.
We need family or friends who would quickly understand us when we talk to them about what is at stake if we should miss it, thereby promising them to make it up with them later and that should end it.
We can never predict or control whatever happens in life, but we can control how we want it to be by choosing what works best for us.
There shouldn't be any sadness in it when you should fully grasp what is happening, and let it end that way because life continues with so many achievements to attend to.
So, I am sorry! I've got to attend to this because it's my career which can never be retrieved back, but there would be a lot to celebrate in the future.
Thanks for your time.
