Nobody is above the law they say, and in an organization, there must be rules to follow, if not people will misbehave and some might never do their jobs diligently.
The time I broke the rules was when I was working in the factory, there are lots of things I had done that I didn't count as a big deal, or something that could have been useful for me but all thanks to HL weekly prompt for letting me share some of those things.
It happened that we can't bring a cell phone into the factory, because we deal with food and the management believes that our phone germs which can be transmitted into the food we are producing.
We do night shift as well and it starts from 7pm to 7am, isn't that a long hour to work?
From 12am to 5am hours of working is always the worst time because by that time you must be feeling sleepy no matter how strong you are.
So that day, I was feeling sleepy which was unusual of me. I do feel sleepy but I was always control of myself till daybreak, but I couldn't control my body that day, I don't know why and what went wrong. So instead of letting the work get damaged, I went back into the locker room to take my phone and my headphone.
I put the headphone inside my cap because we always put on factory caps to prevent hair from falling inside the noodles that we produced. I switched on the phone and played music then went back into the production floor and it worked.
The music took the sleep away and I was able to do my work smoothly until daybreak. When it was around 6 a.m. the production manager came to check how far we had gone with the work, and he noticed that I wasn't paying attention to what he was saying and approached me.
Truly, my attention was on the music I was listening to because that was what kept me awake and energized. So everything he was saying, I didn't hear anything.
He tapped my shoulder and even after tapping me, I still didn't hear him until I removed the headphone inside my cap which is against the rules of the company.
He collected my phone and the headphone, then told me to see him in his office when I was done with my shift. At first, I didn't take it seriously because I am very hardworking and useful for the shift so I thought that he would just talk and then give me back the gadgets.
After my shift, I got to his office only for me to receive a memo from him and then he gave me back my gadgets. I didn't read the paper given to me because I thought that it wouldn't be more than a query, but I was wrong and it was more than just a query. I was suspended for 3 days without payment and I was going to answer a query when I resumed back to work.
When I got home and saw what was in the paper I felt bad because I was only doing what would make me stay awake to do the work smoothly but then I deserved it because I knew the rules but still I violated them, and despite how important I thought I was, someone else did my job. When I resumed I had to write the query and an apology letter.
Then I realized that no matter how useful you think you are or how hardworking you are in your company, you are not above the rules of the company. Ever since then, I would rather sleep on duty than violate the company's rules because the suspension affected my salary which I was supposed to pay my school fee with, let's just say I learned my lesson the hard way.
