A few days ago, hip-hop mogul Sean "Diddy" Combs took to social media and said he was interested in buying the Carolina Panthers.
Even NBA player Steph Curry of the Golden State Warriors was interested.
Ownership of the Panthers could include San Fransico 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick. Talks are taking place to form this ownership group and Diddy is setting up meetings to make it happen.
“The interest is real and it’s moving forward,” the source said of Combs and Kaepernick working together. “They want to make this a reality. It’s serious.”
Current owner Jerry Richardson is putting up his controlling share up for sale. His family owns 48 percent of the franchise and the remainder is owned by investment partners. Anyone purchasing Richardson's share would take over control of the franchise and this is what Diddy seems to be aiming for.
The Panthers are the 21st most valuable franchise in the NFL worth an estimated $2.3 billion, $2.5 billion if a 100 percent sale took place, and would put Richardson's share around $1.2 billion.
According to Forbes, Diddy's net worth is at $820 million so he would have to liquidate some of his investments in order to make the buy happen.
Will just have to watch and see where this goes...
