A pearl is a rounded shelly concretion (hard solid mass) with a brilliant lustre which is found in the mantle or between the mantle and shell of certain bivalve molluscs such as oysters. Pearls are highly esteemed as jewels and compare in value with the precious stones.
Though precious, pearls are a product of pain and discomfort. When sand or some other foreign object enter an oyster’s shell, it creates pain. The oyster reacts to the painful object by producing a gummy and shelly substance around the irritating foreign particle to cushion and eliminate the pain. This gummy secretion hardens to form a pearl.
Can we now correctly conclude from this story that some experiences that cause pains and discomfort to human beings are good in God’s sight?
