Attempting to gamble professionally is not for everyone. In fact I think mathematically only 10% of the participants are going to be able to pull it off.

Probably even less than that. In poker, a solid player can make money at low stakes just because there are so many weak players. Make money, yes. But not enough for it to be a job that pays the bills. For that, you have to play at least mid-stakes. And there, being a solid player just isn’t enough. At mid-stakes, many of your opponents are also at least solid players. At mid-stakes you’ve already got to have skills at putting your opponent(s) on a range of hands. And then for trying to move up to higher stakes you need to have the discipline to be brutally honest to yourself about money-management and psychologically able to drop back to mid-stakes when your bankroll demands it.
