RE: Help me understand why anyone would be opposed to proving citizenship in order to vote
I guess the main reason is because of the framing. Republicans frame it as protecting the security of elections; Democrats frame it as voter suppression. Republicans essentially tend to see voting as a

RE: Help me understand why anyone would be opposed to proving citizenship in order to vote
Actually four House Democrats voted for it: Ed Case of Hawaii; Henry Cuellar of Texas; Jared Golden of Maine; and Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington. It’s probably just red meat for MAGA. I doubt it

For someone who went to Wharton, Trump has an amazingly infantile understanding of how money works. The USD has been a powerhouse of global finance since WW2 because of globalization. And he just stabbed

Based on the timing of the votes, I seem to have several dozen accounts that autovote my posts. In my experience at least, auto voters seem to mostly fall into one of three categories: Those who autovote

RE: President Trump: is he an autocrat in waiting?
In waiting? He seems to be quite active at it. If yesterday’s massive nationwide protests (all but ignored by the mainstream media here) are any indication, I would not be surprised if later in the summer

RE: Bubbled Up to the Surface
Musks's "how'd they get so rich?" question for public servants, is very much valid. He’s scattershot with that though. He recently implied that a federal judge he doesn’t like must be corrupt

Inside Elon Musk’s departure from DOGE — and the real reason behind why he’s leaving Musk — DOGE’s lodestar and President Trump’s right-hand man — is in fact expected to step back from the administration

RE: Pickleman Family Garden - Season 7 Prep!
We moved to a new house a month ago so have to start from scratch on gardening. The new property is more than twice as large as the old one but has way more trees and shade. Lots of challenges ahead. Damn.

I'm not even sure he thinks in terms of business. More like in terms of being a crime boss. JD Vance’s recent “We cannot just ignore the president’s desires” sounds like a capo talking about his mafia

An actual story story. I don’t remember the author, but I read it a few years ago. IIRC a guy tries for a shot at Hitler and another guy bumps his arm right before the trigger is pulled. The guy who ruins

Project 2025 and Musk have both talked about gutting or ending Social Security. If they follow through with that, there will be blood in the streets.

RE: D.O.G.E. A Revolution?
There’s a decent chance that there will indeed be a revolution, just not the kind that DOGE has in mind. More of a 1789-style off with their heads kind. “Be careful what you ask for” is always solid advice.
