Hi everyone 😊
My greetings to you
Hope you are doing well
Today I am going to share a few pics of Peacock. These ones I clicked last month before going to Delhi. I found these today in my phone gallery. This Peacock is searching something to eat in the backyard of our house. I was able to click a few pics before it start running. Yes they get scared once they see human beings near to them. But they can also befriended by putting some efforts to make them trust us as a friend. Putting water to drink and food grains for them for a few days in continuation may make them friends to you. 😊 Don't worry they generally don't hurt human beings not even kids., so you can befriend them.
This species of Peacock, is native to Indian subcontinent. And I have seen them from my childhood. In my village, one can easily hear the sound of Peacocks in the evening generally.
Dance of a peacock is even more beautiful, they generally dance in the monsoon season. When clouds start thundering before rain, they start dancing. They look beautiful with their colorful feathers spread to make a circle.
In Indian Hindu Society, a belief is prevalent releted to their sound too. The elder ones used to tell me that if Peacocks make too much noise in later evening or night, that is not a good sign. It seems that they forecast something bad going to be in near future. It may be a death in the village too. Yes they forecast death at times when they make too much noise (much more than their regular routine) . And with my personal experience, I can say that this belief is not a superstition, I have seen many times that it came true. There were days they made too much noise, and by next morning we got a bad news in the locality. So I think they can see the future which normal human beings can not see. (The same belief is bout the dogs too. Barking or screaming of dogs too forecast something bad going to happen.)
Another belief in Indian society is related to their colorful feathers. In one of my earlier posts too I discussed how their feather are considered very auspicious for keeping at home and in the temples.
One more thing, keeping feathers of Peacock keeps away lizards from your home. If you keep the feather at main entrance door, the lizard will not enter your house. And this is also true. So we also keep feathers in our home. But it's very bad and hurting that some people kill Peacocks for their feathers and for other purpose too. I believe we if we can not feed them at least we should not harm them. Killing innocent beings just for your material sake is not good in any sense.
Peacocks are a part of ancient Hindu literature. They are much celebrated in the Hindu texts which are thousands year old.
Here you may see a Peacock carving on the wall of an ancient temple. I found this carving while looking at the details of the numerous carvings on the outside walls of the temple. These temples have been built at least a thousand years ago.
In this carving, (however it is damaged but still decipherable for me) the Goddess of Knowledge and music, Maa Saraswati is sitting on the Peacock. There is a Veena (a musical instrument) in the hand of Goddess. According to Hindu texts, Peacock is the vehicle of Maa Saraswati. And so here they have been carved out together.
That's all for today
Thank you everyone
