If there's something I've always thought every one had but came to realize they didn't, it is common sense. And coming to a realization like this one wasn't easy for me to do because, you see, common sense is the one thing I know that everyone needs to survive this life, so knowing that it's not so common after all was like a shocker to me. This is probably one of the reasons there are so many dummies in prison because if some of these people had applied common sense to their thinking, they wouldn't have been locked up or in any of the trouble that they currently are in.
About a year ago, someone who used to be my neighbor but moved out a year earlier had sent me a text. We used to be friends, so we would occasionally communicate with one another, just asking how the other person was, and that was mainly it. But on this particular day, he had asked me if the guy who was a known dealer (he sold marijuana) was still around and in the business.
I had asked around and told him yes. Then he had proceeded to ask me to not only help him buy some but also to bring it over to his new apartment, which was a bit far away.
My immediate response had been to refuse because not only do I not smoke, I try not to associate myself with people like the guy who sold that stuff on the street. Also, buying it for him was one thing; having to help him transport it was another thing. Because not only was I committing a crime by purchasing the weed, I was literally asking for me to be arrested by the police by getting on the road with it.
So I had explained my reasons to him, and he understood perfectly and asked me to give him the number of another neighbor of mine. He had told that one the same thing, and he had accepted it without even thinking twice about it.
Luckily for him, he didn't get caught, and everything went fine. But you see, thinking about the whole thing today just made me reason how stupid that second neighbor was because why would anyone want to put themselves in that kind of trouble?
I mean, if he were getting paid to bring it to him, then I would have said that he was doing it for the money; it won't make it right, but at least it's a reason. There are a lot of stupid things that people are willing to do if the price is right. But this guy had done that entire thing, simply because he knew the guy who was asking him for that favor.
This is one of those things I genuinely feel he wouldn't do if he had some common sense.
