Earlier today I was scrolling on Facebook, and then the profile of a lady I used to know in high school popped up. And as I went through some of her old pictures, I saw one with her dad in it, and that just took me down memory lane.
During the time I was an apprentice, her dad, who also was a friend to my boss, would often just come hang out at the shop for hours. Then on one fateful day, he had sent me on an errand. He had directed me to a shop to buy something, told me the price of the product he wanted me to buy, and gave me some money.
I got to the shop, and it turned out that the price he had told me wasn't the same as what the lady at the shop was selling the product at. So I had returned and told him what I saw, and he ended up taking his money back, and that was that.
Fast forward to the next day; as soon as I got to the shop, he was already seated there, almost as if he was waiting for me. It turned out he had gone to the shop where the product was being sold (or maybe a different shop) and had gotten the product for that exact price that he had told me it was being sold for the previous.
So now, he felt that I was trying to steal from him by giving him a higher price and keeping the change to myself.
The moment I got to the shop, my boss immediately filled me in on what was happening, which left me shocked and a bit upset that they would even think such. So in my anger, I had offered to take the man to the same shop, thinking he would refuse, but to my surprise, he had gotten up and followed me.
We walked down to the shop, and luckily for me, I had met the same lady that I met the previous night. So I had proceeded to ask her how much the product was being sold for, but before I could finish my sentence, the man with me had immediately interrupted me, probably because he wanted to make sure I didn't give her any clue on what to say.
So I kept quiet and watched him question her.
The moment she mentioned the price and it was the same as what I had told him the previous day, I quickly turned around and walked back to the shop without saying a word to him. He could tell I was upset but didn't have the balls to apologise.
That was probably the last time I went on an errand for that man.
