When we say we have to be careful about the things we do, we sometimes think it's only because of how that thing would affect us; meanwhile, in reality, some of those things don't only affect us but also affect a bunch of people around us.
About three years ago, I and a friend had gone to this bar to relax, and while we were there, we had seen this man seated all alone at the next table, and he had an energy drink with a bottle of bitters with him. Bitters are alcoholic drinks claimed to be made out of herbs but also taste like shit; hence, the name.
This was the first time myself my friend were seeing someone mix their drink this way, so when we got home, we both decided to give it a try and not only did we get tipsy as expected, it also no longer tasted like shit anymore. So we kept on doing it and also introduced it to the rest of the guys. And when my friend eventually left here to go work somewhere else, he had also introduced the mixture to the people there too.
But here's the thing: fast forward to about a year later, and we had read somewhere about how harmful energy drinks can be to the human body, and it could even get worse having to mix it with alcohol, so I stopped. Luckily for me, I wasn't addicted to it or anything, so it was pretty easy for me to stop because I haven't had an energy drink in years.
But here's where we both realized how far that one thing we had done had spread. So after we both decided to stop, we also decided it would only be fair to tell the guys too about the reason we stopped it and whatnot. And although some of them listened to us and stopped too, there are some of us who had chosen to ignore the warnings and still take energy drinks to this very day; these are people who rarely drank them back in the day.
Looking back at the whole thing had made me realize that the one decision we took at that bad time, which was to give the mixture a try, now has the potential of affecting other people's lives who weren't even present at the bar that day, and that same logic applies to almost everything else in our lives.
If someone wakes up one morning and decides to end it all, they're not the only one who's going to feel the pain. I mean, there are people who haven't fully recovered from the death of a loved one, even after it has been decades since they died.
So just before you do something stupid, don't only think of yourself but of the many other people (most especially our loved ones) that your decision could affect too.
