Hello and Welcome to my blog.

As some of you might already know that the Chess World Cup 23 is going on and the world chess world has eyes on the winners. I believe the top 3 will directly go to the Candidates 2024 tournament where the next candidate to challenge the current world champion will be decided.

I am following the tournament and watching some live coverage on Youtube. While the games can be slow but it is quite interesting to look at all the matches and analyse how the players are doing. I got so motivated that I started playing as well.

I played a total of 14 blitz games and ended up gaining 6 rating points even though my no. of wins and losses were the same.

Most of the games were so bad that I won't even share it with you. But there were some interesting games that I would like you to see.

I was black and after having an advantage for so long I ended up giving the advantage and the position was drawn.

White to move and mess up this position, can you see it? It looks like a natural move.

White went Rh1 to stop the passed pawn which looked like a natural defence but in comes a check from Black and the king had to go to the last rank, and now a quiet king move will trap the rook.

Here is the complete game if you want to have a quick look and see how I almost drew even with two extra passed pawns.

While most of the games were bad, there was one game which was just comical. I have to share this embarrassing loss when I got checkmated in less than 10 moves. And that too with the White Pieces, I made like 3 blunders in a row right in the opening stage and got punished heavily. 🤣

Future Goals

I have not been playing chess for some time, I used to grind a lot and learn new openings and studied endgames at some point but now these are the worst part of my games. I don't play the Hive Chess tournaments as well which I used to but the timings are bad for me, you can't expect me to wake up at 1:30 am at night and play good chess...lol

Even though the timings were always an issue I had played some of the best games in those tournaments only. I was looking at my Blitz profile and saw that the 'Best rated Victories' and 'Worst Rated Defeats' came from those late-night tournaments only.

Shout out to anomadsoul@anomadsoul for defeating me (twice 😅) last year, that was my worst-rated defeat of all time, but he was an active and improving player at that time and got even better now.

I will grind more and get much better at chess. My current goal is to reach 1800 in Blitz in Lichess.org, I know it would take me about a year lol, but better to have goals than no goals...right?

Let me know if you guys have any chess goals or goals in general that you want to achieve in the near future. It would be nice to hear from you all.

Thanks for reading...

Until next time...
