• People shooting at each other with automatic weapons and machine guns and missing their targets. The whole point of a machine gun is to increase the certainty of a bullet hitting a target by spraying an area with lead. Even with single shot weapons, when properly aimed, it’s difficult to miss, except with great distance.
• People throwing a gun away when they run out of bullets or when they think they’re done shooting. Guns are expensive and can be picked up by the bad guys and used later to commit a crime or to shoot the good guys.
• The bad guys holding a hostage at gun point and forcing the good guys or police to drop their guns, or to put them on the ground. In the real world the bad guy would then easily have the option of killing everyone and getting away. In addition, both police training and the law prohibits officers from giving up their weapons under any circumstances – it’s just not done, for the aforementioned reason.
• The hollywood sound effects have very little resemblance to the real sound of a gun fired. They change the sound to add more drama and to make it sound more “lethal”.
• Guns that never seem to run out of bullets and don’t seem to need reloading. The “guns of plenty” in movies exist to keep the story moving and maintain the dramatic moment, whereas a constant reloading of weapons would create annoying breaks in the flow of the film. But it’s still inaccurate and wrong as far as the workings of firearms are concerned. Also, machine guns run out of bullets within seconds. You cannot shoot endlessly for minutes with them.
• People shaking off being shot like it’s nothing. In reality bullet wounds are very disabling. They tear flesh and organs apart and cause considerable agony and suffering. It’s difficult to do anything once you have a bullet in you, let alone a half dozen. Often shock sets in which is very disabling.
• And the dumbest of all, the bad guy gloating and talking endlessly before shooting. In reality when you have a shot you take it. You don’t think or talk about it.
