I get the feeling Steemit is an alt-right haven for the most part, so I'll probably get some flack. I believe in the free movement of people, but as it stands today we are moving globally in the opposite direction. Trump screams about Dems allowing "murderers and rapists" to enter freely. The dog whistle is disgusting but regardless the idea that its easy to immigrate to the USA is a joke. This article doesnt even mention the militarized zone of the US/Mexico border, as if we need a wall with all the surveillance and vigilante border police already, but it does cover the Department of Homeland Security, Visa programmes, etc etc. Personally I;d like to see all borders abolished (I'm just being provocative here), in the mean time can we discuss the fortress like conditions already surrounding Europe and the USA ..

If all borders were abolished, would everyone in the third world and poor countries just leave to live abroad? Somehow I doubt it .. they know their home the best and often their language skills are lacking. And they are poor. On the other hand with climate change and wars more and more people will be running away from their homes and seeking aid and shelter. As things stand now, I think we can say they will be met with violence and hatred when they try to come to the "enlightened" West .. we are living in fortresses protecting the 1%. Our economies are precarious and the whole house of cards could fall. In the end it is our wealth that divides us from the Global South, but that can evaporate quickly. All our egotistic belief in self is too often built up by believing we are better than other people .. its a lie we tell ourselves to feel special. But like everyone we are born and we die and I think if we are to face the challenges ahead of us, we need to become more tolerant, more open to difference, less judgemental ... look I'm not even discussing the Czech presidential election here, this is a global problem and with an aging Europe I think new blood and fresh young faces will invigorate Europe ultimately. Slamming down the gates and living in a bunker is the worst solution, and yet everyone rushes to do it. We are troglodytes. Its time to come out into the light.
