This new article on Wired, Inside the Two Years that Shook Facebook—and the World. is fascinating. Kushner's top strategy for winning, apparently, was using AI microscale advertising and posts on FB together with Cambridge Analytics data to suppress votes for Clinton and target key ares for Trump .. thanks to the Electoral College, US elections are a sham, basically, that the process comes down to a few key counties .. Its very difficult to untangle what's going on here, but we need to be especially wary of FB and the way it is used to influence elections.

Basically it's too late . .. we've opened a Pandora's Box of social media and political advertising and manipulation and until there is a sea-change in the way politics and money work together, I expect things will only get worse. We desperately need campaign finance reform that addresses the use of funding on social media and foreign meddling in US elections .. but as long as SCOTUS is controlled by the corrupt GOP, I don't see any changes in that area anytime soon. I'm afraid the wheels are going to fly off. I told my wife that at this point imagining the USA splintering into civil strife and breaking into separate zones is not so far-fetched. What do you think?
Facebook is a massive behemoth of a company with a huge internal bureaucracy. Steemit is an anarchic, decentralized space with much less influence and no advertising that I'm aware of. On the level of psychic manipulation and dopamine excitement, they are similar. Steemit has the same addictive nature. Personally I find all the need for bots and money games around upvoting to move away from the primary idea of community and making money from content or brain trust. If Steemit ever rises to the point to threaten Facebook, I think the site will be more centralized and more Facebook-like at that point. Facebook cant last forever. What I like about Steemit is the way it is reviving the blogging form, or has the potential to ... essays and online discourse have great power. Facebook and Twitter have diluted that effect, maybe Steemit can revive it.
