Not an expert here, but I assume that hormones are given their instructions (for lack of a better term) from the chromosomes? Not taking into account external manipulations taking place via environment, purposeful or not. I assume that ones outer manifestation would resemble the inner workings dictating to it, once again minus any external influences that may be taking place.
