Of course this is a huge issue. I have written many posts examining just such circumstances in various forms. One I mentioned a few times was the scheme in which they are allowed to pull you over, confiscate any valuables they have under the guise of suspicion, then release you without charges forcing you to sue them to get your property/money back. Asset forfeiture is a scummy scam. The I10 corridor is renowned for this as cops target out of state travelers, knowing often the expenses for them to fight in court can be greater than what was taken, or will at least pose an obstacle many will forgo even if they have the means.

I've also written many times on the way our supposed law enforcement/intelligence agencies will head up criminal organization/schemes they are sending normal folks to prison for left and right. After learning about Whitey Bulger, it confirmed for me something i suspected for many years. At the top of any large criminal enterprise there are those entrusted to look out for the public welfare running them. Any large criminal activities that are recurring are known by these folks, and if its not being shut down its because they either run it or profit from it.
