Seems we are going in circles here. Thinking the disconnect is in how the facts, if they are facts, are being magnified to absurd levels to achieve bizarre situations many are uncomfortable with to accommodate the whims of folks who come across as mentally ill.

I suspect strongly enough that for every possible person who the fact that study applies to there are as many as dozens/hundreds using it to push a narrative when in fact they don't fall into its application.

I will use another example of this, regarding the abortion push. Pro choice folks always trot out the tired argument of the mothers health or cases of rape. Yet most abortions are performed as a lazy method of birth control. The purpose of this example is to highlight how the facts that in some cases the mothers health or the fact she was raped are real, the majority seem to push that narrative to mask what the real intentions are. Creating an emotional topic that seemingly results in a topic that is off limits to question for fear of being labeled as a hateful person when in fact the arena it is trotted out in deserves not only a debate, but in many cases those being shut down with these misapplied facts can often be folks being wronged by them.
