Without speculating (much) myself, I think the way the world works will be dependent upon how much violence the central governments feel they can muster sizable support for. We are already seeing backlash against the changes they have forced upon people. And again, a backlash against those backlashes as neighbors turn on neighbors, family members on family members. I do know that many guns rights activists who parrot that saying about from my cold dead fingers will (smartly) lay their guns down when an army of cops/soldiers who greatly outnumber them in both bodies and firepower would show up on their porch to enforce whatever they are pushing. So the question is, how many of the gun owners are extremists (that really mean their cold dead fingers), and at what point would the government believe that the majority of the public would support such a maneuver on that percentage of people.

There are other variables as well, such as how many LEO and military would support such a push. I know there was a furor back in the eighties among the Soldier of Fortune crowd about a poll the Marines had, asking their enlisted men how many would be willing to fire on American citizens. I believe at that time it was somewhere in the 20% range. I have to imagine they have figured out ways to increase that number over the ensuing decades, based on how much I see a stronger sense of us vs. them being displayed with law enforcement. My dad was a cop for awhile, and while they always have had the blue wall of solidarity, you didn't see the us/them and out of control violence in the numbers we have seen grow to epidemic proportions. Especially with the growing trend of killing peoples dogs as we see today.
