The focus on perception manipulation seemed to speed up publicly with the rise in psychology (Freud, his nephew Bernays, etc). The experimentation done during and after the second world war by intelligence communities seems to want us knowing what they are doing through messages like you show, fractioning the mind, chemical and electromagnetic alterations, etc.

There is a culmination of it all on the horizon, and doesn't look good.
