I see it in both sexes, just apply the illusion differently. Many men feel their worth is as an asset class or abilities to excel at things using their hands etc. So they showcase that like the peacock strutting around showing off their feathers.
Many women seem to feel their value lies in their looks, so they apply face spackle like a construction worker, burn their hair into the desired shape then spray glue on it, sometimes wear clothes so tight it is like a second skin, wear heels to uplift the back side etc.
No wonder after the courtship period is over many couples realize they don't care for one another. One or both were nothing but an illusion, lol.
