Tourism starts up again after being closed down for a long while due to Covid. The Governor is doing a tour on the island of Cebu to promote the tourism again. I only follow the news with one eye, so I wasn't aware that on Saturday the tour would be in my town Moalboal. But I don't need the newspaper of watch the TV. I went out on my balcony for my morning coffee and I saw the big boat from the Coast Guard making his way into the bay. Most of the times we only see the small local fisherboats and banka's. So I decided to post some pictures of the different boats I see here from my balcony.
First let's start with the little ones. These are used by the local fishermen. They don't go out very far to catch fish. The fresh fish is sold at the wet market. Some fish with lines and other use nets. They place the nets and then start throwing rocks, or splash with the paddles to chase the fishes into the nets.
It's a small form of fishery just to maintain their families. Even on a rainy day they have to go out to make sure the family has food.
Next on the list is a slightly bigger one. These banka's have a rooftop for protection. They come in different sizes and are mainly used for tourism. A lot of these boats take the tourist on a tour in the area and of course to Pescador Island, a famous spot here in Moalboal. A lot of people go there for snorkeling. It's amazing how beautiful the scenery is underwater!
The biggest ones of this kind are used by the dive centers to bring the divers to the different divespots. Moalboal is famous for the nice diving. And this a is relax way to go to the divespots. Put on your gear, roll over and the fun starts!
Sometimes we see the big liveaboard boat. A famous one is The Serpent and this is a high class diving boat. It's used to bring divers to several spots in the Philippines. Depending on their itinerary, they also come to Moalboal to see the famous sardines here. I have to admit it's always nice to see it docked right in front of my place.
And then the last one ... This is a very large one. We only see this kind of ships (you cannot call it a boat I guess) when the weather is very bad and they have to find a place to take shelter. Mostly it is during typhoon season and I only see 2 or 3 a year.
And of course, the local children like to use the boats as a playground :)
Some people ask me if I don't get bored of my view. But hey, how can someone gets bored by this? Everyday there's something new and different. I really think I have one of the best views you can have over here.
