Hello everyone I come again to write a blog in Splinterlands Community in order to join this contest Social Media Challenge! this is a popular event held by Splinterlands every week. Hundreds of Splinterlands players will do a blog to follow this event every week. Today I want to discuss how to control the damage of the blast effect.
This is a battle in the Modern Format Diamond League, I played with my scholar account from Balthazar.
The guide presents a strategy on how to advance through the ranks by utilizing reasonably priced or cheap-to-rent monsters that can still prove effective. So no Expensive card to rent in my guide.

There is some guideline we can use :
Reverse Speed, try bring monster with low speed, don't bring monster with martyr ability , because it will increase the speed when the monsters killed.
Same with Bloodlust will increase the speed when killed the enemy, so try not bring the monster with Bloodlust unless the monster has True Aim ability (the attack can't miss) like Jared Scar.
Explosive Weaponry and Target Practice ruleset, These 2 rulesets are hard to handle, the attack and blast effects can go everywhere, I my opinion we need a monster with the taunt ability to control the attack, so as not to hit our low HP monster.
and to defend against the blast we need a monster with Reflection Shield ability.
There is a very hard decision, the best monster with high damage and low speed is in the Earth element, The summoner can add magic damage by 1, and many magic attacks in those elements. But usually, if someone saw the Earth element can be played, they will anticipate it with the magic counter.
We decided to break the rule this time, By using Summoner which can increase speed and monster with slow ability.
Our choice is the Water element with Kelya Frendul Summoner because we think the enemy will bring many magic or range attack.
The tanker we choose can defend against ranged and magic attacks very well.
For this battle, I think it's difficult to arrange the monster's position because of the Blast and Snipe ruleset, the attack can be from everywhere, depending on the monster enemy brought.
We depend on the Wave Brood and Venari Kinjo to control the damage and the Blast Effect. Hoping that before Wave Brood dies we can kill many enemy monsters.
This is enemy lineup :
This is our lineup from left (first position) to right (last position) :
| Summoner/monster and Abilities | Description |
|---|---|
| Kelya Frendul (summoner), make all friendly monsters have +1 speed and armor. | Very good summoner for this battle the shield will prolong the life of our monster, but the increased speed will make our monster become slow because of the reverse ruleset, which is not good |
| Wave Brood, 1st position, attacker and tanker. Has ability Taunt, Close Range, Void, and Return Fire. | With ability Return Fire (if attacked by range monster will reflect back the damage) and Void (reduce magic attack by half), we can be safer from Range and magic attack. Because this monster has a taunt, other monster attacks this monster first if they can. Wave Brood is a range attack monster but with the ability, Close Range can attack in the first position. |
| Venator Kinjo, 2nd position, Support. Has the ability Reflection Shield, Camouflage, Immunity, and slow. | Put this monster in the second position to defend against the Blast effect. The blast effect can't give damage to this monster because of the Reflection Shield ability which ignores damage from the blast. Camouflage ability make this monster can't be attacked by another monster if not in the first position. This monster is immune to the poison effect. Another ability Slow is not good for this ruleset, because the enemy's speed will decrease and they become faster in this ruleset. The Last ability Amplify is very good because our tanker Wave Brood has a Return Fire ability, combined with Amplify will damage the range monster even more. |
| Merdaali Guardian, 3rd position, Support. Has the ability Tank Heal, Repair, and Strengthen. | This is important monster in this battle, to prolong the life of Wave Brood by restoring Wave Brood Shield and HP every round. Another ability is Strengthen will increase all friendly monster HP by 1. |
| Swamp Spitter, 4th position, attacker and support. Has the ability to Repair, and Giant Killer. | Another support monster who can give armor. He will restore armor to the friendly Monster whose armor has taken the most damage. Has good attack of 3, and 2 armor. Put in the 4th position in case Merdaali Guardian dies, this monster can be a tanker who restores armor every round. |
| Deeplurker, 5th position, attacker. Has the ability Opportunity, Poison, and Demoralize. | High damage melee monster with poison ability (has 50% chance to inflict poison to the enemy. The enemy who got inflicted, every round will decrease the HP by 2. With the Opportunity ability can attack from any position, this monster will attack the enemy with the lowest HP. Demoralize will decrease all enemy melee damage by 1. |
| Nerissa Tridawn, 6th position, Attacker and Tanker. Has no ability. | very high magic damage and HP. Put this in the last position so he can be a tanker if the Wave Brood dies and the enemy bring monsters with Sneak ability. Nerissa Tridawn With Deeplurker these two monsters are our main attacker. |
Round 1 :
The battle begins with buffs and debuffs from both sides.
We can see that all enemy monsters have slower speeds compared to our monsters. Because of that, the enemy will always attack first before we can start attacking.
Enemy side :
Our side :
Our Wave Brood receives tons of damage but still holds, although after this round can't receive healing from Merdaali Guardian anymore because got inflicted by affliction status from goblin Psychic attack.
Round 2 :
Because Queen Mycelia die it is easier for us to inflicted a damage, the enemy doesn't have extra armor anymore.
Enemy side :
Our side :
After Wave Brood died the enemy start attacking Merdaali Guardian because of the Target Practice which give Snipe Ability.
Round 3 :
Enemy side :
Our side :
Only 1 enemy left Mycelic Infantry in this round, and he was inflicted by poison status because of the Deeplurker attack. we can be sure that the victory will be ours.
Round 4 :
Not much the enemy can do in this round, Mycelic Infranty died because receiving damage from the poison. Victory become ours.
Yes, our strategy worked successfully, because the enemy relied on magic and arrow attacks, and there was only 1 melee monster in this battle.
Magic attacks do almost no damage to Wave Brood. Unfortunately the Affliction ability from the enemy Goblin Psychic directly hit Wave Brood in the early rounds. So Wave Brood can't be healed anymore.
With the help of the Wave Brood and Venari Kinjo, which isolated the enemy's damage and blast effects on these two monsters, our other monsters can freely attack the enemy and cause great damage.
I think the enemy to afraid to do something different in the ruleset reverse speed. The enemy can isolate the damage and Blast Effect, the Earth element has a Mycelic Slipspawn monster with a Taunt ability but he has a slow ability. I think because of that the enemy has not used the monster because he/she wants the fastest speed he could reach.
On the other hand, we are more afraid of the ruleset Explosive Weaponry and Target Practice ruleset, so we think that it's better for us to increase the speed of our monsters / reduce the speed of enemy monsters so we can isolate the damage and Blast effect from monster attacks.
